Cracked or burned sockets cause flicker and dead lamps. Match the base type (G13 bi-pin, G5, medium E26, candelabra, GU24, 4-pin CFL or MR16), the mounting style and the length of leads. For fluorescent and LED tubes, shunted lampholders work with instant start ballasts; Type B LED tubes often need non-shunted ones, so check the tube's wiring diagram before you buy.
