Exit & Emergency Fixtures
Emergency lighting has to work the moment the power goes out, and inspectors will check that it does. NFPA 101 calls for 90 minutes of battery runtime, a functional test of at least 30 seconds every month, and a full 90-minute test every year. Self-testing units handle the monthly test automatically. Choose by mounting (wall, ceiling or recessed), letter color (red or green; some jurisdictions require one) and whether a combination exit and emergency unit saves you a fixture.
