Compact Fluorescent Ballasts
CFL ballasts run 4-pin plug-in lamps in downlights and wall fixtures. Read the old ballast label for the lamp wattages it supports (many cover 26, 32 and 42 watt), the number of lamps and the input voltage. Advance SmartMate units are sized to fit inside downlight housings. 2-pin lamps do not use these ballasts; their starter is in the lamp base. If the fixture is due anyway, an LED PL lamp that bypasses the ballast ends the problem.
